ICELAND
February 2019
In February 2019, I had the pleasure to travel through Iceland with my parents. Just a couple of weeks before, I arrived back home from a trip to Costa Rica. The contrast between the two countries couldn't be bigger! Where Iceland is cold, white, blue, black, rough, rocky and has barely any trees, Costa Rica is hot, 50 shades of green, full of plant, trees, life and animals, ... This contrast highly amplified my appreciation for both places. It's crazy to realize that these two totally different worlds are both part of the same Earth.
There is something that Iceland and Costa Rica have in common though..!
The big amount of breathtaking waterfalls that often come together with wonderful rainbows...

The diversity in the type of landscapes in Iceland must be pointed out though. From misty waterfalls to erupting geysers, from black sand beaches to pentagon shaped basalt pillars and from Icelandic horses to damping mud pools, we've seen it all.
Sometimes I literally didn't know exactly how to take a picture that would approach a capture of the landscape I was witnessing. I personally find it one of the biggest and most interesting challenges we photographers face: capturing the atmosphere of the scene in the way you want to present it to your public. It always takes me some time to shoot a picture I'm satisfied about. I walk around in the environment, observe the different things that are happening, until I find the composition I'm looking for. Luckily I shared this holiday with my parents, who also like photography. They know it takes a dose of patience to let me shoot the pictures I'm looking for :) .
My parents can actually be considered the people who started the photography sparkle in me. They bought me my first camera, a blue Fisher-Price analogue camera with a big, yellow shutter button, already at an early age. Ever since I've been taking pictures. From the Fisher-Price camera, I moved on to other analogue cameras. My first digital Canon Powershot cameras, a Canon G1X, a Canon 40D that my father lend to me (because he also moved on to a newer model), to finally being the proud owner of a Canon 5D, Mark III.
Now, photography is not only one of my greatest hobbies, it also became a way of looking at the world. With a camera in my hands I'm always chasing to capture the feeling of that moment. I especially pay attention to remarkable details and patterns in the scene, whether the subject is an animal, plant, landscape, urban environment, and so on. Through my pictures, I aim to give people an impression of the way I look at the world. A world through blue eyes. A world characterised by colour, detail and curiosity. Hope you enjoy!
