BAJOS DEL TORO
Costa Rica, February 2020
Just before the outbreak of the Corona virus in early 2020, we visited Catarata del Toro, one of the largest waterfalls in Costa Rica. This wonderful waterfall is located near the small mountain village 'Bajos del Toro', that's still quite undiscovered by the average tourist. Around Bajos del Toro, there are a lot more waterfalls. I would certainly like to visit, after the 'Corona storm' has calmed down though!

Catarata del Toro

The intensity and diversity of the colours of this place are just indescribable. Although these pictures can give you an idea of what this place looks like (you must actually see it with your own eyes!), it can't make you feel the overwhelming power of the water tumbling down an old volcanic crater. This place has a Jurassic Park feel. The leaves of a characteristic plant called 'Sombrilla de pobre' (or 'Poor man's umbrella' in English) shown in the pictures are - as you can see - about the size of my body!
I realized that by the time we visited this breath taking place, there didn't seem to be a cloud in the sky. Since then, things rapidly changed. At the moment of the outbreak of the Corona virus, many people had to adapt to a different, slower and maybe even simpler lifestyle than they’re used to. Back to basics, back to Jurassic Park 😉...
We were given time to do and think about things that we're normally not able to do or think about. We were given space to appreciate the important and small things in life. Our family and friends, the birds in our backyard, the delicious food we cooked. With 100% certainty I can say that moments that I slowed down, were the moments where the beauty of nature and people amazed me most and I enjoyed life to the fullest!
Hopefully people will listen to the important message that the Earth has sent us and make changes in their lifestyle for the benefit of the planet and for their own sake. I wish and hope you’re one of them.
